Marina Bay Sands

Some hotels impress you with their design. Marina Bay Sands impresses you with how it makes you feel — cared for, from the very first minute to the very last.

We stayed in the Family Suite, and the view alone was worth the trip: Gardens by the Bay stretched out below us, and every evening the light show lit up right in front of our window. We didn’t need to go anywhere to watch it — we just sat there, together, and let Singapore do its thing.

But if I’m honest, what stayed with me most wasn’t the pool or the skyline. It was the service. From the moment we arrived, there was no queue, no waiting — we were taken straight into an arrival lounge, and check-in happened up in the room instead. We had our own personal host throughout the stay, who came to check on us at dinner just to make sure everything was right, organised our shuttle, waited with us, handled every single bag, and even helped us through check-in at the airport on the way out.

That is the real luxury. Not marble floors or infinity pools, though Marina Bay Sands certainly has both — it’s a team that makes you feel like the only guest in the building. That’s what makes a hotel truly five-star, and it’s the thing I keep thinking back to, long after the view has faded from memory.

Staying at Marina Bay Sands — where the skyline is unforgettable, but the service is what you remember.

Dinner was at Spago, Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant right by the rooftop pool on level 57 — not the famous club everyone talks about, but the calmer, à la carte spot where you can also have breakfast overlooking the whole city. We went for sushi one evening, and it might be one of the best views I’ve ever eaten in front of. In the mornings, we usually went down to the buffet breakfast instead, with that same impossible view stretching out over the bay.
